A Long Flight Made Easier
Flying from Canada to Frankfurt after surgery is no easy feat. That’s why I decided to fly business class, and I’m grateful I did. The extra room, comfort, and ability to elevate my leg made the journey far more manageable.
It allowed me to start the trip without overwhelming pain, and that set the tone for the days ahead.
The Silver Wanderers Team: Support That Went Above and Beyond
From the moment I landed, the Silver Wanderers team was incredibly supportive. They knew about my recent surgery and checked in with me constantly, offering help and ensuring I felt safe throughout the entire tour.
Their kindness gave me confidence — and made me feel like I wasn’t going through any of it alone.
Michael & Paul: Friends Who Became My Heroes
Two people who made a huge difference were Michael and Paul, fellow travelers I met on the first day.
These two gentlemen quickly became more than just travel companions — they became my protectors. Anytime we reached stairs, steep paths, or tricky terrain, Michael and Paul were right there, each taking one side of me, lifting me slightly, or even supporting me with their arms so I didn’t put too much pressure on my ankle.
At one point, during a rough cobblestone walk in Austria, they literally lifted me together for a short distance so I wouldn’t risk twisting my ankle again. We were all laughing as they joked about “carrying a royal guest,” but beneath the humor was genuine care and kindness I’ll never forget.
Their friendship — and their willingness to go above and beyond — touched me deeply.
It reminded me that sometimes the best part of travel isn’t the scenery… it’s the people you meet along the way.
A Group That Felt Like Family
The entire Silver Wanderers group was amazing. Everyone looked out for everyone else. We moved together, helped one another, waited for each other, and shared stories that made us feel like lifelong friends instead of strangers.
The warmth of this group made my recovery feel lighter and my spirit so much stronger.
A Journey I’m Grateful I Didn’t Miss
Looking back, I’m so glad I didn’t cancel. I didn’t just see Europe — I experienced community, friendship, and support in its purest form.
This trip reminded me that adventure doesn’t stop because life throws obstacles at us. Sometimes, those challenges make the journey even more meaningful.
And yes — I would do it again in a heartbeat.
